Responding to the Corona Virus by Inoculating Yourself and Others with Love! Steps to take for yourself and family!

Remember just one week ago today (3-8-2020)? If you walked into a grocery store there was a normal selection of toilet paper, food, and flats of water. You could turn on the TV and watch your favorite NBA team (Lakers of course!), went to church Sunday morning like normal, and spent part of Sunday night prepping your kids, and possibly spouse, for a normal Monday going back to school and work day. Now tomorrow (Monday, 3/16/2020) you might be working from home, with your kids at home; and if you are a college student, you will be attending class online! President Trump is encouraging us not to be in groups of ten people or more to help prevent the spread of this virus.

What to do?

1 – Manage your own anxiety and depression first!

Some 2000 years ago Jesus said, “I can do nothing unless I have seen my Father do it!” I love that verse…if Divinity says I need an example, then it is okay for me to say I do not know what to do and search for answers. Your adult children, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have their eyes on you, and need you to model positive productive steps during this time of crisis. If anxiety is overwhelming, you can always go to www.brainhealthassessment.com and take the free online test designed by my friend Daniel Amen, MD. The report will give you practical tips as to what to do to help yourself and will suggest supplements that can help with anxiety. Use the code “drhenslin21” for a discount if you decide to try the supplements. CBD oils can also help with managing anxiety, improving brain health and function. If you are interested in these oils go to www.drhenslin.primemybody.com. FOCUS and CALM are two oils that PrimeMyBody produces. On this website you will see the exciting research that PrimeMyBody is doing concerning these oils. There is 0% THC in these oils. They are safe!

2 – My office is staying open during this time of crisis.

You can call my office at 714-256-2807 to make an appointment or email me at drearlh@gmail.com. We can have an appointment over Zoom. Once we set up an appointment time, I will send you a Zoom link to click on, and we can have a session online. Prior to this Corona Virus scare, I have been doing 30-40% of my sessions online because it helps with saving driving time to get here. I am not retiring any time soon, and plan on working with people as long as I am helpful in meeting people’s needs!

3- Focus on what you can do to strengthen your immune system!

  • · Have fun!! Laughter, jokes, funny videos, or paging through FB as a family is a source of giggles.
  • Pray together as a family. There are numerous studies that show that prayer and meditation improve immune system function.
  • Eat healthy, exercise and stay hydrated. Isn’t it interesting that all the steps that I am suggesting are what we are supposed to be doing anyway for good brain and heart health! Go for walks, a hike, and enjoy God’s creation.
  • Arguments, conflict, extremes in emotion all decrease immune system function. Holding onto resentments and hurts only decreases immune system function. One research study did a cotton swab of the inside of the mouth of newlyweds. The researchers found that it took a full 24 hours for the immune system to return to normal after a 30-minute argument! Learn to resolve conflict quickly, move into forgiveness, and love quickly. If your spouse or family member persists in arguing, set a boundary and stop your side of the argument. If they continue to argue… well take your I-Pad or cell phone into the bathroom, lock the door, and enjoy some alone time reading.
  • Limit video game playing even though you are spending more time inside. Intense video games can trigger adrenaline and cortisol production. Cortisol is commonly referred to as the “stress” hormone, and it allows you to fight more effectively (or run away more effectively). Unfortunately, it also suppresses your immune system and makes concentration more difficult.
  • Loving actions toward others and receiving love increase immune system function. Take risks in showing love…and receiving love it makes you stronger!
  • Focus on positive emotions. Research shows that the experience of love, joy, peace, happiness, etc. strengthen immune system function (1 Cor. 13).

In other words ….get busy spreading love, happiness, and fun to help innoculate yourself and others from the Corona Virus!

4 – Addictions, Anger, Affairs, Depression and Anxiety make it difficult to experience and express the above-mentioned steps.

  1. If you, a family member or friends are struggling with addictions ( alcohol, drugs, sexual addiction, compulsive spending, over eating, under eating, gambling, video games, etc.), anxiety, or depression, your immune system and those around the depressed, anxious, or addicted person will suffer. There is help! Give us a call at 714-256-2807 or email me at drearlh@gmail.com

There is hope!! That is the news from Brea, where all the women are strong, the men are good looking and the kids are above average!!

Blessings!!
